Mid Michigan Big Brothers Big Sisters originated in 1975, serving Clare and Gladwin Counties. The agency is funded entirely by grants, fundraisers, United Ways and private donations. Over the years we have served thousands of children in the Glare and Gladwin counties. The agency is a full affiliate of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. We maintain offices in both Clare and Gladwin Counties.

Founded in 1904,  Big Brothers Big Sisters  is the oldest and largest youth mentoring organization in the United States.  In 2004, the organization served more than 225,000 youth ages five through 18, in 5,000 communities across the country, through a network of 470 agencies.  National research  has shown that the positive relationships between Big Brothers and Big Sisters and their Littles have a direct, measurable and lasting impact on children’s lives.

Big Brothers Big Sisters one-to-one mentoring makes a huge difference for the youth it serves.  Research consistently demonstrates that Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring helps at-risk youth overcome the many challenges they face.  The most compelling evidence was found by  Public/Private Ventures (P/PV)1,  showing that Little Brothers and Little Sisters are:
  • 46% less likely to begin using illegal drugs;
  • 27% less likely to begin using alcohol;
  • 52% less likely to skip school;
  • 37% less likely to skip class;
  • More confident in their schoolwork performance;
  • Able to get along better with their families.

Volunteers of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mid Michigan are just that - volunteers. They are people who have a genuine desire to make a difference in the life of a child. .
