Community based matches differ from the other two types of mentoring because "Bigs" are allowed to meet with their "Littles" in the community and contact them via phone or email. High School Bigs and the Big2Little program only allows for contact between matches at their designated place (ie. school or the Browns Corners building). Community Based Matches A Big is someone that donates one to four hours per week to a child, doing things they enjoy such as hunting, fishing, cooking, shopping, crafts or watching movies. The Big serves as a role model and friend to a child in a one on one mentoring relationship. To become a Big, we require all prospective volunteers to:
Once the application process is complete, you will be contacted to arrange a meeting at your home. At this time we will explain the program more thoroughly and answer any questions you might have. The home visit provides us with the opportunity to get to know you better so we can match you better with a child. After the home visit, we will send a letter stating that you are either accepted or denied. If accepted, we then begin working very hard to find just the right child for you! High School Bigs High school students, grade 9th-12th, serve as "Bigs" and are matched with elementary and middle school students who are apart of the S.P.A.R.K.S program. High School Bigs are required to spend one hour a week with their assigned "Little" during the S.P.A.R.K.S. program. "Bigs" typical follow his/her "Little" around to their S.P.A.R.K.S activities, however they are also able to play games, work on home work, do crafts, etc. apart from the group. There are NO meetings outside of S.P.A.R.K.S or off of the school grounds. High school student volunteers must:
Big Brothers Big Sisters "Big2Little" Program B oth adult and high school volunteers are utilized in this after school program, held at the Browns Corners Church. Matches will meet from 3:30-5:30 p.m. weekly, having time to work on home work, play games, basketball and engage in planned, supervised activities. All meetings take place only at Browns Corners Church. No contact is made between matches outside of "Big2Little". Transportation for "Littles" and high school volunteers will be provided from school to "Big2Little". However, NO transportation will be provided home. Transportation home is the individual responsibility of each participant. Volunteers must:
